The Interreg VI-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme will contribute to the implementation of Policy Objective 5 A Europe closer to citizens  through an innovative tool, the Integrated Territorial Strategy (ITS). The Strategy should respond to the economic, social and environmental needs of  Romania-Bulgaria cross-border region and it should represent the expectation and contributions of the designed by relevant stakeholders from the area, the Strategy Board. The creation of the Integrated Territorial Strategy relies on articles 28 and 29 of the Regulation (EU) 2021/1060 – the common provisions Regulation.

The main goal of the Strategy is to ensure the development of the area by boosting tourism and cultural heritage, interlinked with all related socioeconomic fields, such as: tourism and culture infrastructure, environment, human resources and education system, business development, accessibility etc. The backbone of the strategy, integrating all these fields, is the development of the cycle tourism, taking advantage of the EuroVelo 6 route, which passes through the region, from its west side to the Black Sea shores, in the east.
