On the 15th of October 2024, the Monitoring Committee (MC) for the Interreg VI-A RO-BG Programme met to make important decisions regarding the selection of projects under Priority 2: A Green Region, Specific Objective 2.7. During this session, the MC approved the financing of a total of 7 projects, which have a combined total value of around 15 million euro. These projects will receive funding through the Interreg VI-A RO-BG Programme. The list of these projects will be available on our website, at: https://interregviarobg.eu/en/projects-lists.

The selected projects were submitted under Call 2, with the deadline on the 11th of September 2023, and specifically address issues related to the protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity, and green infrastructure. Moreover, these projects aim to contribute significantly to reducing all forms of pollution in the cross-border area between Romania and Bulgaria. By focusing on environmental protection, the selected projects will have a positive and lasting impact on the RO-BG region.

Additionally, another important point of discussion during the MC meeting was the approval of the Applicant’s Guide for Priority 2: A Greener Region, Specific Objective 2.4 – Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, and ecosystem-based approaches (climate change adaptation). This guide provides essential information and guidelines for applicants looking to submit projects under this objective, which aims to address climate change challenges in the cross-border area. The Applicant’s Guide will soon be published on the Programme’s official website, allowing stakeholders to prepare for the next round of project submissions.

The discussions also included the presentation of a new operation of strategic importance focused on improving navigability in the region. This new initiative will complement the existing DISMAR Project and will be developed in the next period in order to receive financing under Interreg VI-A RO-BG Programme. The operation is expected to strengthen efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and waterway navigation, which is crucial for enhancing economic development and regional connectivity.

These key decisions reflect the continued commitment of the Interreg VI-A RO-BG Programme to foster sustainable development, environmental protection, and cross-border cooperation between Romania and Bulgaria.
