A green region along the blue Danube ( GREEN - ROBG00071 )
What is the purpose?
Specific Objective: 2.7 - Enhancing protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution
The project aims to increase the quality of life of the inhabitants along the two banks of the Danube by increasing the quality of the environmental conditions. This will be achieved through:
- the green arrangement of some spaces in both countries: a University Botanical Garden in Romania and the green arrangement of the campus of the D.A.Tsenov University.
- a network of sensors will be created in the cities on the Romanian and Bulgarian side of the Danube; the data will be transmitted and processed by the Shvistov Computing Center.

What will happen?
- The establishment and arrangement of an Academic Botanical Garden for the University of Craiova;

- Creation of a complex system for monitoring air, water and soil quality along the Danube;
- Promoting, facilitating and encouraging citizens engagement in protecting biodiversity.

Status
The project is currently in implementation.
The launching conference of the project was organized on 23rd of February 2026 at the premises of the Lead Partner – University of Craiova.
Information regarding the project was published on the partners’ websites and a facebook page was created: https://www.facebook.com/share/1HeUXuEhxU/?mibextid=wwXIfr.
The public procurement for the establishment and arrangement of an Academic Botanical Garden for the University of Craiova was completed, the design and execution contract was signed on 08.07.2026.
On 30th of March 2026, a Partnership Agreement between the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics – Svishtov and the State Forestry Enterprise – Svishtov. The objectives of the partnership aim to support the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data on the condition of forest ecosystems, soils, and biodiversity; to promote sustainable practices for forest resource management and adaptation to climate change; to participate in joint initiatives, trainings, workshops, and events aimed at raising public awareness; and to contribute to the development of solutions in the field of ecological transition.
The Open Doors Event was also organised by D.A. Tsenov in a hybrid format on 30th of March 2026, with the participation of partners and representatives from the target groups on March 31, 2026. During the event, 40 participants were engaged (27 in person and 13 online), representing academic staff, students, local authorities, NGOs, and regional stakeholders.
Partner 2 – D.A Tsenov Academy of Economics launched the public procurement procedures for landscaping and for the bicyle parking.
