March 7, 2025
On February 13th, 2025, the National Authority of INTERREG VI-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme within Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works of Bulgaria hosted an information session focused on INTERREG VI-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme, which took place in Municipal Council Hall, Vratsa. The workshop kicks off a series of upcoming events on Bulgarian territory, specifically targeted at potential beneficiaries of INTERREG programmes.
Apart from the National Authority (NA) and Info point staff members, the event was attended by numerous representatives of municipalities and non-governmental organizations from the Bulgarian regions within the Programme area. The Mayor of Vratsa, Mr. Kamen Kamenov, inaugurated the meeting by highlighting the importance of the Interreg funds for local communities and pleaded for more flexibility in the application and assessment processes through the implementation of simple and clear rules.
NA and Info point experts presented useful information and advice on the open call for applications under Specific objective 2.4 Climate change mitigation measures and green infrastructure, the upcoming call under Specific objective 2.7 Biodiversity and green infrastructure, as well as the open call for concept notes under Programme Priority 4, related to the development of the Euro Velo 6 cycling route.
The event facilitated interactive sharing of specific examples and experiences from prior Programme calls, including common pitfalls in project proposal development and valuable improvement tips. The participants had the opportunity to ask specific questions to the representatives of the National Authority, who in return received valuable feedback during the discussion. Special emphasis was placed on the challenges of forming partnerships, the cross-border impact of the joint measures as well as the difference between the interventions in green infrastructure under SO 2.4 and SO 2.7.
In addition, various opportunities for synergies and complementarities between different INTERREG programs were presented and discussed. Good project examples addressing green infrastructure and examples of linear green infrastructure from Sofia and Bucharest were presented by arch. Lyubomir Georgiev, event moderator and Bulgarian expert from the URBACT pool of experts. The event strongly emphasized the exchange of knowledge and good practices between cities, as the experts from the municipality of Vratsa shared their experience of successful cooperation under the URBACT Programme that could be easily transferred to a potential application under the future calls of INTERREG VI-A Romania-Bulgaria Programme.
The workshop facilitated collaborative dialogue between the participants, contributed to enhanced understanding of funding opportunities and laid a foundation for similar future initiatives.
