We are launching the public consultation on the two guides for project ideas that contribute to the Integrated Territorial Strategy for the development of the Romania – Bulgaria cross-border region. One guide addresses project ideas proposed to be financed under the Interreg VI-A Ro-Bg Programme, while the other more simplified guide is addressing potential project ideas that may be financed from other financing sources, which contribute to the Strategy.

The Integrated Territorial Strategy (ITS) for the Romania-Bulgaria Cross-Border Area was approved by Strategy Board and covers an extensive area along the Danube River and EuroVelo 6 cycling route. It leverages the region's triple potential in cycling, nature, and culture, emphasizing cross-border cooperation and strong leadership.

By 2030, the strategy envisions a dynamic and attractive region where a flourishing tourism sector thrives alongside a healthy environment. This will be achieved through a focus on three key areas:

  • Sustainable Mobility: Enhance cycling infrastructure, improve road conditions, and create safe cycling paths to encourage exploration by bike.
  • Local Economy and Quality of Life: Develop tourist attractions, support local businesses, and invest in skills development for the tourism industry.
  • Integrated Tourism and Green Mobility: Promote the region as a unified eco-friendly destination, leverage cultural and natural assets, and foster collaboration between stakeholders.

The strategy prioritizes cross-border cooperation and capitalizes on the region's unique potential in cycling, nature, and culture. Strong leadership and a bottom-up approach involving local communities further solidify the plan's foundation.
